Comments: I took this extreme close-up of a live Monarch that was nectaring on a flower. The insect seemed to tolerate my slow approach, and so I keep getting closer and closer. Thanks to a macro lens I was able to get within a couple inches. I used a bit of fill flash to help light the wings. On larger prints, individual scales (some in place and some in need of repair) are easy to see.
