It was a cold morning, but it ended up being worth my while to try a dawn birding trip. I had been looking for a few Greater Prairie Chickens and hoping to see a Short-eared Owl in photographic range when I happened upon this Burrowing Owl. They don't appear on the Saline county bird checklist, so I will see to it that this bird is added. I can't quite explain how excited I was to see this bird. I have always loved owls and to get to view and photograph this owl was a very special treat! I sure could have used a 600mm lens. :-)

Good luck birding!
